WebJan 28, 2014 · My SIL has raised 4 kids now on a homemade formula she got from her mom (my MIL). It's a 1:1 ratio of evaporated milk and water with a drizzle of Karo Syrup. Thoughts? They are all healthy; 10, 5yr old twins and a 2 yr old. Is this safe? Would evap milk have all of the nutrients they need? Breast milk has a lot of lactose (milk sugar, glucose and galactose), which is how a baby gets their easy-to-digest carbohydrates. Today’s formula (and DIY formula from the 50s and 60s) often use corn syrup to get the same amount of carbs into a baby.
