WebThe harder Canadian Shield rocks resisted the grinding action of the glaciers to a greater degree than the softer sedimentary rocks to the south (Gilbert 1994). Furthermore, the glaciers in this region generally advanced in a southwesterly direction, moving eroded material off the Shield and on to the limestone (Corlett 1986).
