All pre-date the Noah’s Ark story, which suggests writers of the Old Testament were influenced by older cultures and texts. In 1872, this was proven to be the case. WebI examine flood myths from around the world in order to understand how human beings conceptualize the deluge across cultures. Through an analysis of flood myths from Mesopotamia, Ancient Greece, and the South Pacific, I argue that flood myths are characterized by four shared themes and a “destruction-creation” cycle.
