WebDec 8, 2016 · The boot is not a pressure seal- it is just there to keep the rack ram clean. This means it is likely that a pressure seal has failed inside the rack, and the seepage is going out along the ram and dropping in the boot. Typically they will do a very slow leak for quite a while before failing altogether. WebThe inside of both bellows boots are contaminated with power steering fluid on a rack and pinion steering gear. Technician A says if fluid is leaking past a rack seal into one boot, oil may flow through the breather tube to the opposite boot. Technician B says that there should be fluid in the bellows boot, and this is a normal condition.
