For while the Paraclete is presented as other than Jesus (his successor or “replacement”) he is also presented as something more than that: he is portrayed as the mediator of Jesus’ presence: there is a genuine presence-in-absence promised all throughout the text. WebbHe reminds them in John 15:26 that “When the Counselor comes, the one I will send to you from the Father —the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father—He will testify about me.” The “Counselor” is the Greek noun Paraclete [PAR uh kleet] literally referring to someone who is “called alongside” to render help.
